Afternoon Surgeries

The COVID-19 period, which from time to time put the operation of operating rooms on “ice”, combined with the shortages of nurses and anesthesiologists, as a result of which many operating rooms remain closed, exacerbated an already acute problem of the NHS, the waiting lists for regular surgeries.
Under the responsibility of the Ministry of Health and the Hospitals, a very important effort has been made to fully update the individual surgery lists, in order to get the best possible picture of the cases, and to clear the lists with the clear aim of having specific sizes per type of operation. At the same time, a new procedure has already been activated, with the preparation of the Unified List of Surgeries, for all Hospitals for all Health Departments.

In order to immediately solve the problem of very long waiting lists, and the problems they bring both for the health of citizens and for the internal management of all cases within the Hospitals, a synergy process has been designed with all the available operating rooms per Hospital, per Prefecture and per region.

The synergy will concern the management of the available public units and the compensation of the operation to the public structures at an agreed price per operation. Doctors and anesthesiologists of public hospitals will be able to undertake these operations, with special compensation – predetermined for each operation, and will perform them in the available public structures (afternoon surgeries). Respectively, private Clinics or Day Care Units cooperating with EOPYY, participate in the project, performing pending operations, to decongest the waiting list of Hospitals, by choice by the citizens.
